1996

The Abbotsford School District created its first community school, the John Maclure Community School Society (JMCSS). Over the years, the benefits of JMCSS on the John Maclure community were so undeniable that John Maclure Elementary was renamed to John Maclure Community School.

2004

Central Abbotsford Community School Society (CACS) was created at Abbotsford Senior Secondary with the goal of providing programming and building community involvement at Abbotsford Senior Secondary and at its feeder schools. This new community school model of providing programs at numerous schools while having a central location was very effective. This led to the re-branding and re-purposing of JMCSS to also reach out to and provide programs to Mouat Secondary School and to its feeder schools.

2008

JMCSS was officially renamed to West Abbotsford Community School Society (WACSS). The two community school societies operated under the same effective models and provided numerous before and after school programs, special events, and day camps to their respective communities. The West and Central communities of Abbotsford were benefiting from all these great programs, but the rest of Abbotsford was missing out.

2016

Things were set in motion that resulted in the 2019 merging of the two organization. We combined our staff, our resources, and our years of expertise and experience to form our new society, the Abby Community School Society (ACSS). We centralized our main location to the Sweeney Centre near Abbotsford Senior Secondary School and expanded our programming to all schools in Abbotsford. It will take some time and some growth, but the goal is to provide after school programming and camps to/at all schools in Abbotsford. For 23 years now, JMCSS, CACS, WACSS, and now ACSS have been a successful and integral part of the Abbotsford communities. We move forward with optimism, so cheers to the next 23 years!
